Palazzo Boncompagni is social
June 17 to July 31, 2025
From June 17, 2025, the dreamlike, anthropomorphic world of Marta Roberti invades Palazzo Boncompagni. An exhibition that interweaves myth, nature and history in a unique dialogue between contemporary art and the ancient architectural splendor of the residence of Pope Gregory XIII.
Palazzo Boncompagni opens its doors to the poetic and visionary universe of Marta Roberti, one of the most original artists on the contemporary scene. Her works transform the spaces of the palace into an imaginative habitat populated by sphinxes, archaic goddesses, exotic animals and hybrid creatures, offering visitors an evocative journey between metamorphosis and mythology.
The artist’s creatures will populate both the exterior loggia and the interior rooms of the Boncompagnina, all the way to the monumental Vignola Staircase. Marta Roberti’s works establish an intimate dialogue with the architecture and decorations of the Boncompagnina, where grotesques on a white background, unreal landscapes, fantastic animals and mythological gods seem to be mirrored in her drawn creatures: from Athena to Aphrodite, from Ceres to Fortuna, each figure evokes a bridge between ancient time and contemporary sensibility.
Born in Brescia in 1977, Marta Roberti studied Philosophy and Cinema and Video at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Her work investigates the theme of metamorphosis as a continuous interconnection between species and fluid identities. Through drawing and the use of her own body as a model, she depicts hybrid creatures and mythological deities, exploring the fusion of human and animal. She has exhibited in numerous international venues: the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome and the EMST in Athens. She was also the winner of the Cantica21 call, sponsored by MAECI and MiC, with works acquired by the National Institute for Graphics in Rome.
The exhibition can only be visited by guided tour with reservations required.
